Activity Six: Tagxedo and Spicynodes (Study Tools)

The Tagxedo was a very fun prgoram to use.  My daughter and I did this together.  We went on to make some more that she is posting on her Facebook.  I can see this being used even in the LC for students to come up with words related to making positive choices.

The Spicynode site was relatively easy to use.  Most of the difficulties I had were due to home and laptop computer issues. I used Bathroom Rules as this is always an area that students need reteaching.  I did not add multiple rules under each node (topic area) as I plan to have students fill those in, or will use the PBIS matrix wording (which I do not have access to right now) to complete more accurately.  I see this being a very easy tool for both teachers and students to use in the classroom.

Activity #4 and #5

While I really like the idea that I can actually put videos on YouTube, this was a bit time consuming for me, mostly due to faulty, old, home equipment. I spent some time with Screenr and Screen-o-matic first. They were very easy to use. However, the sound did not work for me (broken microphone, frozen laptops... etc.) I also attempted some screencasting apps on my Ipad. They did not work for what I wanted to do though. So, I ended up going to the Lab to use the Smart Notebook approach. With help from Emily (THANKS!), I was able to produce a video! Woo hoo! Initially, I struggled with what I would screencast for the LC. After doing this (and talking with Emily), I can see a lot of potential uses (outside of school as well!). The video I made is designed to help staff be able to do referrals online... as that day is fast approaching! I am eager for feedback so I can make it more effective. Making a YouTube account was very easy as well. The screenshots were especially helpful. I see now why so many videos are on YouTube!

Activity Three

Omigosh!  I had so much fun doing this activity!  I loved looking at the art and coming up with a story.  It was very easy to use once I watched the tutorials. I am hoping I can use this in the LC and have students add pages related to certain topics, such as being respectful, being honest, following rules, etc.  These could then be shared with others in the school.

Activity Two

Here is my first prezi!  It took me much longer than I wanted as I was trying to do too much.  I feel it is a bit simple looking, but had to move on! I think Prezi is a great concept that would get easier to work with the more it is used.  I am a bit stuck in the power point thinking so this is good for me! The intent of this would be for kids to use it.  I have info to add to make it applicable as a parent resource as well... someday.

Activity One

The two "STOP WALK TALK" videos were used this year in our annual bully boosters. I felt it would be helpful to have these accessible for students and their families.  Parents may view the videos with their children and have more meaningful discussions with their own children.  In addition, the videos show one way that Sunnyside works hard on preventing bullying.  A common language is more readily usable as well.

I think I would use the Google blogger or Kids Blog for right now.  Mostly this is do to feasibility and keeping things simple. I am hoping to use a blog for LC students to share topics and ideas.  This would need to be supervised, so the option from Kids Blog would be really helpful!!
